Know How Quality of Translation is Measured?

In order to reach the goal of translation that is to ensure that the source and the target texts communicates the same meaning it is necessary to have some standards in the field of translation. Then only the companies offering translation services will be judged on their quality. And in turn it is also useful for the translators to increase their standards of writing skills from the feedback they have received. At the same time, it is also important for the businesses to give their projects of translation only to a reputed and certified translation company. In order to measure all these there are certain standards used to measure their quality. Let us have a look on few things taken in to consideration when certifying the translation.

To improve the translation quality and to know whether the translated work is good or bad there should be some means to asses the quality of translation.

TQI methodology: Translation Quality Index is a method used to asses the quality of translation. It measures the number and type of errors found in a text and calculates score, which is called as TQI, an indicative of the quality of translation.

Error Category: While assessing the translated, work some errors will be taken in to consideration like Errors of Meanings, Errors of form, Errors of Compliance, etc. Any errors in the meanings of the words, grammatical mistakes, errors in terminology will be considered majorly and gravity or weight of the errors are categorized as serious or minor.

Difficulties in TQI: The practice of TQI do have some problems while assessing the quality of the translation work. Accuracy errors are difficult to evaluate when there is slight loss in meaning. Some times grammatical errors are not as straight forward as one would think. The person who do smart work in assessing the quality of the work can be called as good evaluator.

After following a series of steps of evaluating process the quality of the work will be determined.
