Language Interpretation and Its Types

Language interpretation is facilitating of oral or sign language communication between the users of different languages. An interpreter is a person who converts a thought or expression in one language into an expression with a comparable meaning in to other language in real time.

Following are the different types of language interpretations:

Legal Interpretation:
Also called as judicial interpretation, it occurs in courts of justice, administrative tribunals, and wherever a legal proceeding is held. Legal interpreting can be the consecutive interpretation of witnesses’ testimony.

Community Interpreting:
These interpreting services are used by the fields such as legal, health, local government, social, housing, environmental health, education, and welfare. This type of interpreting is also known as public sector interpreting.

Conference Interpreting:
This type of interpretation is used to interpret the conference, either simultaneously or consecutively. Conference interpreting is divided in to two markets, one is institutional market and the other is private market.

Escort Interpreting:
In this type of interpreting, an interpreter assist the person or a delegation on a tour or a meeting. This type of interpreter is called as escort interpreter or an escorting interpreter.

Media Interpreting:
Media interpreting has to be conducted in the simultaneous mode and it is provided particularly for live television coverages. This type of interpreting requires lot of equipment and a professional interpreter.

Medical Interpretation:
Medical interpreting is a subset of public service interpreting, consisting of communication, among medical personnel, the patient and his or her family. Medical interpreter must have a strong knowledge of medicine, common medical procedures, the patient interview, the medical examination processes, ethics, etc.
