Gemstones used in the Preparation of Jewelry

Both men and women like to wear jewelry. Jewelry plays an important role in the appearance. Sometimes, it denotes the status in the society. It can be worn from the head to toe of the body. Jewelry is nothing but wealth for some of the people.

Gemstones are generally hard; some of the soft minerals are also used in making jewelry. The main property which leads to more value is the rarity. Generally, gemstones are of two types. They are organic and inorganic. Organic are obtained form the natural resources and Inorganic gemstones are obtained from the minerals.

Many precious stones are being embedded in the jewelry. Not only the stones, but also the gems are used in the preparation of the jewelry. The main gemstones which are used for the preparation of the jewelry are:

Amber: It is prepared from the fossils tree resin. This is one of the oldest stone which is being used till date. Some of the stones were prepared 120 million years ago and some of them were prepared 1 million years ago.

Emerald: Along with the sapphires and rubies, emerald is the most precious gemstone. According to the historians, emerald was mined and found in 3500 BC. These are of fine green and bluish green in color. Historians took a great care in maintaining them.

Quartz: These are made of crystalline and are in various sizes and shapes. The famous types of quartz are rose quartz, smoky quartz. These are in pale pink and shades of brown respectively. Needle like inclusions are there on the Rutilated quartz which is famous one. The Amethyst and Citrine also belong to quartz family.

Amethyst: It is purple in color. It is one of the most priced gemstone in the quartz family.

Jade: In general, it is green in color. But, they can be of different colors. It is being linked with the Asian culture and it is also referred to as the stone of heaven.

Ruby: Rubies are red in color and are the most precious stones like emerald. They are famous from the past millions of years.

Jasper: They are of different colors and all of them belong to chalcedony family. They have the unique features and they are well-known and famous for their colors.

Turquoise: It has a very attractive color and mostly they are blue or greenish blue. Generally, it is used more in southwest America jewelry. The largest Turquoise producing region is southwest United States.

Sapphire: This is popularly found in blue color. It is famous in the United States. It is being under strong saturation. Different colored sapphires are also available.

All these stones are used for the preparation of the jewelry, and they make the jewelry more attractive.
